Join us for a talk on the history and operation of Candlewood Lake. As its plan unfolded, the lake would flood 5,600 acres of land of the Rocky River Basin.

Connecticut Power and Light Company created the lake in the mid-1920s to create an important Connecticut hydro-electric power source. It was the first modern, large-scale facility in America to pump water up into a reservoir, in order to produce electrical power later. In many ways, the lake is a big battery power source, nearly 100 years old, that we get to enjoy today in many ways.

John Celio is a historian, storyteller and a member of the Organization of American Historians and a member of the Association for the Study of Connecticut History.

Registration is required.
